How the Compendium taxonomy connects to literature harvesting, screening, and synthesis via Claudito.

1. Binary Taxonomy

Every paper is classified by answering two questions:

  • What is the entity? — Raw material, organism, compound, chemical, structure, or hybrid ecosystem.
  • What are we measuring? — Durability, chemical profile, joinability, sustainability, application, or biological response.

2. Claudito Workflow

  1. DRAFT — Define scope and facets in drafts/compendio_scope.txt
  2. HARVEST — Run one query per matrix cell; Grade A→B→C→D sequential search.
  3. TRACK — Save references to subject-tree folders references/<subject>/<source__pub__year>/
  4. SCREEN — Auto-screen + memo per subject.
  5. ORGANIZE — Tag by facet values and chapter allocation.
  6. WRITE — Draft per matrix cell.
  7. SYNTHESIZE — Compile LaTeX sections.
  8. SAVE — Version snapshot.

3. Ontological Grounding

To keep the taxonomy rigorous and reusable:

  • Controlled Vocabulary compendio_facets.json with IDs, definitions, and examples.
  • Synonym Rings — Expand queries automatically (seawater = marine = saline = brine).
  • Hierarchical Relations — Material → Metal → Steel → Stainless Steel.
  • Search Query Templates — One template per matrix cell for reproducible harvests.

4. Known Gaps & Next Actions

  • Create explicit facet definitions (compendio_facets.json)
  • Build query templates per cell
  • Run pilot harvest for 2-3 high-priority cells
  • Validate auto-subjects against facet list
  • Build cross-cell evidence map
  • Export taxonomy to SKOS/JSON-LD
