Mandatory welfare provisions
The legal floor: adequate housing, nutrition, water, handling, ventilation, sanitation and veterinary care.

Indoor ⇄ Outdoor
- Indoor: enclosed shell, mechanical ventilation, isolation rooms.
- Outdoor: runs, shade, slope + drainage, secure fencing.
- Hybrid: connected runs; best in temperate climates.
Tropical ⇄ Non-tropical
- Tropical: cross-ventilation, stilts, shade, light low-mass walls, evaporative cooling.
- Non-tropical: insulation, heating, thermal mass, solar orientation.
EU space minimums
- Dog: 4.0 m² (≤20 kg) / 8.0 m² (>20 kg); height 2.0 m.
- Cat: 0.50 m² floor + 2.0 m² shelf; height 1.5 m.
- Horse: 9 / 12 / 16 m² by withers; height 3.0 m.
